Governance in Sport-A panel discussion

Effective sports governance requires integrity, leadership and sound judgement. It is the system by which sports organisations are managed and directed. This governance ensures accountability, responsibility and transparency along with highly effective decision-making processes. Our experienced panel has a wealth of local and national experience across multiple sporting bodies including Sport Northland, Northland Rugby Union, New Zealand Rugby, Aktive and SPARC. These panellists include:

  • Andrew Golightly – Partner at Marsden Woods Inskip Smith Lawyers and previous Chairman of the Northland Rugby Union Board (September 2008 to April 2014) and now a director for New Zealand Rugby
  • Nigel Brereton – Partner at Russell Turner Chartered Accountants, IoD Member and Deputy Chair of Sport Northland
  • Dr Sarah Sandley – CEO of Aktive – Auckland Sport & Recreation and has also served on the board of the government agency SPARC (now Sport NZ) and IoD Auckland Branch Committee member since 2012
  • Kirsten Patterson is the IoD’s new Chief Executive and was formerly the Country Head of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
