Christine Allen

My profile

Orchard media maven Christine Allen runs Solas Media Solutions, a media consultancy and coaching company that bags positive local and national media exposure for sole traders, SME operators, not-for-profits and larger organisations. She also helps people develop their own media genius.

“Every business person should know what their newsworthiness is, how to write about it and how to pitch it to media. These aren’t the Secrets of Fatima and journalists don’t bite!”

Christine has worked in media for over 13 years, in Ireland and NZ, spending the last five years at the Northern Advocate, where she was deputy editor, business editor, and production editor.

After seeing a gap in the local and national media relations market, she decided to chuck in her steady newsroom job and answer the call.

"Journalists actively seek interesting, good news stories to balance the negative that they are swimming in. I couldn’t sit back anymore and do nothing. Too many companies are missing opportunities for positive media exposure because they simply don’t know how to get it!"

"It's also time for a fresh approach to media relations. Gone are the days of elitist PR firms and flat, boring content. The media is dynamic and media relations firms need to pick up the pace to maintain and improve the value of earned media."

As well as being the go-to pro for getting stories in a variety of local and national publications, Christine runs media workshops and does one-to-one media coaching for business owners and managers. She also works with high schools, developing their media plans and bagging heaps of great coverage for the schools.

Wife of rural banker John, also from Ireland, and mum to toddler Jack, Christine unwinds by playing roller derby with the Northland Nightmares.

The Onerahi consultant seeks refuge in the Orchard because the atmosphere just tells her brain to “Shut up and write!”

“Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve spent my career working in an office. When I’m on deadline, I need to sit down and get stuck in!”
